In praise of riding something “different”
As a regular rider with regular routes, I’m the first to admit that sometimes I find myself lacking the motivation to get out there and train.
Today was one of those days, I had time and great weather but just couldn’t commit to where or what to ride - trail or road? vintage or modern?
Nothing was getting my attention, until I had a thought, rather than miles or pace and cadence, jumps and flowing trail, I’m just going to ride my bike.

At this point I spotted my Pashley Guv’nor Hanging in the far corner of my workshop - I bike I purchased on a whim for it‘s looks back in January and have never been out on (Possibly due to the fact that it can puncture while just sitting there).
So I decided there and then to just go ride the Pashey on a bit of everything to my favourite coffee shop.
Having gotten less than a mile from home it did it’s usual party trick and blew its front tyre clean off the rim - something it can do with only minimal pressure in the tyre due to the vintage design.

Despite this minor set back I was soon rolling again on a mixture of roads and little bridleway sections, and pretty soon I realised I was loving every second of the ride - going wherever I pleased enjoying the sunshine.
Up to this point I had been toying with the idea of selling the Guvnor as I wasn’t sure where it fitted into my riding, but now I know just what it’s for - its an amazing bike just to get you out riding, no Lycra or other kit required just a big smile on your face!
so here’s to riding something different, that might just inspire you to get out there and ride....
